On September 28, 1929, Charles Lindbergh landed on the island of Curaçao in a twin-engine Sikorsky seaplane. The landing was in the eastern part of the Schottegat near the "Scadta Island". The Curacao family business company S.E.L. Maduro & Sons had then acquired the agency of Pan American Airways and wanted to promote it with this flight. Their director of the New York branch of Maduro & Sons, S.E.L. Maduro (Momon Lau), had arranged this flight as part of a publicity campaign. Charles Lindbergh became world famous for his crossing from New York to Paris, the first solo transatlantic flight in May 1927. Lindbergh was welcomed by Governor Brantjes and S.A.L. ("Mongui") Maduro.
